Georgia O'Keeffe

Georgia O'Keeffe was born in 1887 and grew up with six brothers and sisters on a farm in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. After stints at schools and teachers colleges, she became an art teacher. Her breakthrough into fulltime painting came through her friendship -- and eventually romance and marriage -- with famed photographer Alfred Stieglitz. Flowers were among her favorite subjects, as reflected in her prints titled Poppy, Black Iris, and Abstract Rose. O'Keeffe also loved to paint the stucco churches and haunting landscapes of New Mexico, which can be seen in her works Ranchos Church, Summer Days, and Black Mesa. She continued painting as long as her eyesight held out, and after it began to fade, she worked in watercolor, pencil, and clay. She died in 1984 at the age of 98.

Gustav Klimt

Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was an Austrian painter who played a key role in the Vienna Art Nouveau movement. Art Noveau, also known as Jugendstil (German for "youth style"), was widely popular at the turn of the 20th century. Paintings in this style incorporate flowers, plants and other organic materials along with flowing, curving lines. Klimt's favorite subject was the female body, and much of his art includes erotic symbolism, painted with a distinctive, elegant gold color. In 2006, His 1907 portrait Adele Bloch-Bauer sold for $135 million, and at that time was the highest reported price ever paid for a piece of art sold at auction. Today, favorite Klimt wall prints include The Kiss, Mother and Child, and Beechwood Forest.
