It's been said that the human face is the most difficult image to capture with a paint brush. But there are many excellent artists whose exceptional talent proves that it can be done and done well.
Perhaps the most famous portrait is Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa. Other famous portrait painters include Pierre-Auguste Renoir (On the Terrace), Andrew Wyeth (Christina's World), Pierre Cezanne (Portrait of Uncle Dominique), and Gilbert Stuart (The Athenaeum) who painted more than 1000 portraits in his lifetime.
