Boston
Boston is Massachusetts' largest city and its capital. The city was founded in 1603 by Puritan settlers and soon became a major shipping port. Boston opened the first public school and the first college and was the site of the Boston Tea Party, several Revolutionary War battles, and Paul Revere's famous midnight ride.
Today, Boston is home to the Red Sox and Fenway Park, Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics, the New England Patriots, and Filene's Basement ("where bargains were born"). Nestled along the banks of the Charles River, its beautiful skyline is the subject of many photographs and works of art.
Signs
The signs of yesterday do indeed take us on a nostalgic journey. Who doesn't remember the road trips along Route 66 and reading all the wonderful signs that featured Uncle Sam, Babe Ruth, and the Union Pacific Railroad? And don't forget the colorful, art deco neon signs that advertised gas stations, restaurants and motels.
Vintage signs may be things of the past, but their images still adorn the lives of sign lovers from coast to coast -- in the form of collectible posters and art prints. Hundreds of new signs have joined this genre of art, which is a favorite in teenage bedrooms and college dorms.
